Cartoon Network/Adult Swim Archives Wiki

This page acts as guidelines towards the wiki and will help you follow the basics of creating an article. Failure to follow these will result in warnings and/or bans.

Please make sure you're not creating placeholder pages, they will be deleted without hesitation.

Formatting

This is the basic format of how schedule pages should be. If you're creating a new page, the template should show up under the notifications as "Schedule page". Time-slots and rows should be left empty if there isn't any information present for them.

Here's how pages should be preset:

{{Sources|1=

If a show is aired for more than a half hour slot, add a rowspan to the Show, Episode, and Image column when necessary.

EXAMPLE:

|-
! scope=row | 12:30pm
| rowspan=2 | Dexter's Laboratory
| rowspan=2 | Ego Trip
| rowspan=2 |
|-
! scope=row | 1:00pm
|-
! scope=row | 1:30pm
| Ed, Edd n Eddy
| The Ed-Touchables / Nagged to Ed
|

For the Sources template, use bullet points and link the source if possible. Sources from membership sites, like Newspapers.com, should just be noted in brackets.

EXAMPLE:

For the Timeline box, use the Navigation Box. The first date is the previous date from the page you are editing, and the second one is for the day after.

EXAMPLE:

PREVIOUS DATE HERE

Shows

Please make sure to properly title and capitalize show names, such as:

  • Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends
  • The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy
  • The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack

For shows with segments/multiple episodes, make sure to use forward slashes in place of semi-colons.

EXAMPLE:

|-
! scope=row | 3:30pm
| The Powerpuff Girls
| Beat Your Greens / Down n' Dirty
|

Movies

Movies that aired should be formatted like so:

! scope=row | 3:00pm
| rowspan=4 colspan=2 align=center | Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase (2001)
| rowspan=4 |
|-
! scope=row | 3:30pm
|-
! scope=row | 4:00pm
|-
! scope=row | 4:30pm
|-
! scope=row | 5:00pm
| rowspan=5 | Cow & Chicken
| #203
|

Indicator Templates

You can find the indicator templates in Help:Special Templates.

|-
! scope=row | 12:00am
| rowspan=7 | Family Guy
| I Never Met the Dead Man
|
|-
! scope=row | 12:30am

Times

Make sure times are in Eastern Standard Time (GMT-5 / UTC−05:00).

Images

Titling images should follow this format:

Generally, only ‘’’one image’’’ should be used for each respective show/movie in a schedule page so the guides are easy to read. Images are expected to highlight the screenbug/logo (if there is one) and provide a general representation for the content in question.

Most images should feature a show/movie’s characters and not just be empty background/set shots. Title cards are permissible if a screenbug/logo is present, but should be used sparingly. Although we may be tempted to use “meme frames”, images from multiple airings should capture as many scenes as possible, and not just the “popular” ones. This is especially important if multiple broadcasts of an episode are available with the same screenbug/logo.

Images should be close to their native resolution as best as possible. Cam-rips should only be uploaded if they're the only sources available.

Screenshots should be uploaded using the Fair Use license.

Sourcing

The mission of the Cartoon Network / Adult Swim Archives is to provide an accurate, research intensive resource that anybody interested in Cartoon Network's past programming can rely on. As a result, CN/AS holds articles to a high standard -- NO content can be added without citing a reliable source.

Acceptable sources include:

  • TV recordings
    • PLEASE do not link to full rips/piracy links. This includes links to Internet Archive.
      • Short video clips/pictures off of television are an exception.
  • Newspaper listings
  • Firsthand accounts (eg, fan sites and forums that tracked past broadcasts)
  • Internal documentation (trustworthy resources used within Cartoon Network and other relevant parties)
    • Generally, only administrators are permitted to use this source. Select editors may have permission as well, with staff approval. If you have access to an internal source, please contact an administrator either on our talk page or on CN/AS Archives' Discord to be approved. Unapproved citations using this as a source will be reverted.
  • Confirmed episode rotations
    • Although Cartoon Network / Adult Swim's programs generally aired in a random non-chronological order, there may be some series that were rotated in a set order. Any editor is free to use the known episodic rotation as a source -- however, staff must concede to its accuracy prior to editing.

Unacceptable sources include:

  • Memories. Unfortunately even the greatest of memories can get a little bit jumbled up over the years, especially when it concerns broadcasts from several decades ago. Therefore, CN/AS requires that all schedule additions be sourced from a tangible resource, such as those mentioned above.
  • Recreated images. To ensure CN/AS's accuracy, all schedule images must be as aired. The purpose of these images is to show how the exact broadcast looked. While a degree of guesswork and faux recreations may prove accurate, only images from the actual broadcast can truly show how a program or movie was aired.
  • Wikipedia / Fandom / Wikis.
    • An exception to the rule may apply if said site has a valid source cited.

Adding sources to a page should look something like this:

{{Sources|1=
* Archive upload by Anonymous
* Old TV recording/encode
* Star Tribune (Minneapolis, Minnesota; via Newspapers)
* Zap2it
* Example Source

Please do not simply include a link as a source. All links must be properly titled and hot linked:

Categorizing

When categorizing a page for a date, use , and , replacing MONTH and YEAR with the appropriate month and year.

Episode Capsules

When making Episode Capsules, you can add several images of what you've just logged onto the wiki! However, general rules about Creating an Article still apply here, and there are several guidelines you must follow to maintain a stable consistency when logging these capsules:

  • The images logged in the capsules MUST be during the show segment.
  • There may not be images taken from commercials, bumpers, promos, etc., alongside the segment images. Though, if you'd like to add an ad break of the source you got the airing from, please consult with staff before doing so.
  • You MUST follow the image limits that are listed below.

For adding half-hour episodes, the limits are as follows:

  • 1 segment - 12 screencaps.
  • 2 segments - 6 screencaps per segment, totaling 12.
  • 3 segments - 4 screencaps per segment, totaling 12.
  • 4 segments - 3 screencaps per segment, totaling 12.
  • 5+ segments - consult with staff before adding.

If your recording isn't from a half-hour episode, there are limits on other types of airings as well:

  • For (standalone) 11-minute segments - 9 screencaps.
  • Hour-long episodes - 15 screencaps.
  • Movies - 15 screencaps.

Cartoon Cartoon Fridays

For the Cartoon Cartoon Fridays segments that indicate the host as well as the Orbit Code, use the template:

Replace "HOST" with the known host for that day (via tape or external source) and replace "ORBITCODE" with the known Orbit Code.
